First Iterations
When the team was discussing ideas for the campaign slogan, we were playing around with the phrase "ASUCD [Blanks] You." Because ASUCD is in charge of providing and planning a lot of important student services and events, the phrases "ASUCD Entertains You," "ASUCD Supports You," and "ASUCD Serves You" all hold true. But now, "ASUCD Needs You."
So the initial design concepts that I came up with played with the idea that the brackets in the center can be replaced by all of the words that describe how ASUCD benefits student lives, but now, the brackets highlight the fact that ASUCD is in need of student support to continue to provide the services that they need.
Second Iterations
Upon receiving feedback on my intitial designs, I began to modify and play with the formatting of the design a bit more. I also started to break away from the bracket concept. The new design took a more straightfoward approach by listing all of the words that describe what ASUCD does for students and ends with the message that now, ASUCD "needs you."
Third Iterations
On the last round of revisions, it came down to two designs: one that incorporated the initial bracket concept and one that followed the more straightfoward approach. Ultimately, the team decided on the more straightforward approach on the right.
Vote Today Banner
Aside from the slogan design, I was also tasked with creating variations of the design that could be adapted to different formats. The "Vote Today Banner" is an example of this.
"I Voted" Sticker
The "I Voted Sticker" was the final task I was assigned for this campaign. They were printed and handed out at voting booths during the voting period. I incorporated elements of the original slogan design with a brighter color combination for a more eye-catching design.
Conclusion
In the days leading up to the election, the team at Creative Media was able to see all of the hard work put into the campaign come to fruition. All around campus, posters were on display, booths were set up, and flyers were handed out to encourage and educate voters. Our efforts continued in the digital space through social media posts as well as a dedicated webpage and animation that thoroughly explains the purpose of this Referendum.
...And the referendum ended up passing! 85.38% of the 10,562 student-voter turnout voted in favor of the Referenedum. The campaign material was also later submitted to and awarded gold in the 2021 Sacramento American Advertising Awards.
